After months of rakiya- and wine-fueled composing\, arranging\, recording\, and mixing/mastering\, we will be releasing "In the Wake" on November 22 at the Happyland Theater. $10 gets you three bands of Balkan rhythms and harmonies: We'll be joined by the 11-women Eastern European choir Trendafilka and the always-rocking Backyard Balkan Brass Band for a true Balkan blowout bash! Come swoon and groove to odd meters and oddly ecstatic melodies. As a sneak peek\, the band has released their first single on the album: Vodata Teche\, or "The Water Flows\," an original song that plays with dark themes of water and climate change. Founded in New Orleans in 2016\, the group grew out of a common desire for group singing as well as a collective fascination of culture and ancient traditions. Trendafilka\, named after the ancient Bulgarian word for wild rose\, draws repertoire from specific areas of Europe - such as the Balkans\, the Caucasus\, and the Eurasian Steppe - that hold rich cultural traditions of polyphonic singing.\n\nAbout Backyard Balkan Brass Band: Backyard Balkan Brass Band brings traditional brass music from Serbia\, Bulgaria\, and beyond to the streets of New Orleans\, packing a vivacious sound with over ten members and endless energy.
